BIASA ArtSpace – Art gallery Bali

BIASA ArtSpace was founded by Susanna Perini as a natural response to her many encounters with young artists in Java and Bali. Hosting the galleries first opening exhibition in 2005, Susanna’s intention was to present progressive Indonesian and International artists to both visitors and residents Bali during a time where there was little knowledge or support for the contemporary arts on the island.

Over the years, BIASA ArtSpace has grown to become a distinct container where artists are invited to dialogue and interact with the general public. The exhibitions and projects staged in their own gallery spaces in Bali and Jakarta or in collaboration with national and international art and government institutions have progressively become a reference point in the development of contemporary art in Indonesia.

Hosting various solo and group exhibitions, BIASA ArtSpace has presented many highly acclaimed and up-and-coming artists including: Jumaldi Alfi, Matteo Basilé, Enzo Cucchi, Heri Dono, FX Harsono, Indieguerillas, Samuel Indratma, Mella Jaarsma , Budi Kustarto, Kirsty Ludbrook, Eko Nugroho, Sara Nuytemans, Arya Pandjalu, Yuli Prayitno, Angki Purbandono, Astari Rashjid,

Saftari, Pintor Sirait, Melati Suryodarmo, Putu Sutawijaya, Kokok Sancoko, FIlippo Sciascia, Farhan Siki, Titarubi, Ugo Untoro, Made Wianta, Entang Wiharso, and Yunizar amongst many others.

In addition to its own program, BIASA Artspace has also collaborated with institutions in Indonesia and in Europe such as the National Gallery in Jakarta, the Italian Institute of Culture of Jakarta, the MACRO museum in Rome, the Delfina Foundation in London and the Indonesian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

The gallery currently has two exhibition spaces; one on level 2 of their newly launched BIASA+ retail store in Seminyak, Bali and the other above their retail store in Kemang, Jakarta and continues to exhibit Indonesian and International contemporary artists whilst participating in national and international projects.
